A tutorial to tame thick, unruly brows
A tutorial to tame thick, unruly brows

Who’s complaining about unruly eyebrows?! For girls with thin brows, having too many eyebrow hairs is a blessing. But we understand that if your eyebrows are thick and heavy, they can really overpower your face and your perfectly applied eye makeup .

Never fear – we have all the tips (and products) to help you groom your thick eyebrows and get them under control.

1. Get your brows shaped

The best art starts with a nice clean palette – so get your eyebrows shaped. Preferably by a professional (unless you really know what you’re doing). A salon expert will know where to wax and pluck your brows to give the most flattering shape and enhance your natural arch.

Having your brows waxed regularly will help a lot when it comes to taming them. Most people with unruly brows also have dark brows - so just tidying them up makes them look much better.

2. Use cream, gel or wax for definition

Unruly brows need to be tamed into place, and just like the hair on your head, creamy or gel-based products work best. Even if you’ve had your brows shaped, bushy brows tend to have a mind of their own. These brow products  will ensure that your eyebrow hairs are all in place and stay that way the entire day.

Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Eyebrow Mascara – an easy to apply tinted brow mascara. The defining ball brush allows you to apply the tinted gel and shape the brow hairs all at once, in one simple step.

NYX Professional Makeup Tame and Frame Brow Pomade – this creamy wax formula provides a light tint while coaxing brows into perfect shape. It offers superb hold and a smudge-proof formula.

Urban Decay Brow Tamer – another superb brow gel with a spoolie applicator to groom and define unruly brows. Use the clear gel if your brows are already dark, or the tinted gel to give your brows some colour.

3. Use powder for soft colour

Powder-based products generally give a softer, less defined finish – but still leave brows looking beautifully groomed. This is also a good option for adding colour to brows that are very light or fill in areas where the hair is a little sparse (yes, girls with thick brows can still have sparse patches).

Maybelline Brow Drama Shaping Chalk Powder – this fine powder offers superb pigmentation to tint your pale brows with soft colour. The sponge applicator is easy to use and gentle on your brows.

L’Oreal Paris Brow Artist Genius Kit – a nifty little palette that contains tweezers to pluck any stray hairs, a precision angles eyebrow brush, pigmented wax and powder to shape and colour your brows, and a spoolie to groom the hairs once you’re done. The wax and powder are in 2 slightly different shades for a natural, textured finish.
