If flowers were feelings, roses would be love. Lavender would be serenity. And daisies? Pure happiness! Nothing sums up the joy of a sunny summer day quite like a field of bright and beautiful flowers. So how about making your blossom with this floral cut crease eye makeup tutorial?
Word of warning: sunflower cut creases require excellent technique and loads of patience. But if you can get it right, you’re sure to turn a few heads!
Step 1: The cut crease
Before you get to the fun bit of painting sunflowers above your lashes, you need to create a cut crease using yellow and gold eye makeup. You don’t want to use a yellow eyeshadow that is too pigmented, because the sunflowers won’t stand out nicely. We recommend NYX Professional Makeup Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals.
Apply a soft gold shadow to your brow bone, above your eyelid and below your eyebrow, and feather the colour to a point. Layer dark gold and bronze into your crease, blending the colour for a smokey effect.
Using a fan brush, carefully apply concealer over your whole eyelid, making a sharp line at the crease. You should now have smoky yellow eye makeup, but only above your clearly defined crease.
Step 2: The floral eyeliner
You need a selection of coloured liquid eyeliner to paint flowers onto your lids. We love Razor Sharp Water-Resistant Longwear Liquid Eyeliner because it’s available in a variety of gorgeous hues. For white accents, we recommend the bright, creamy NYX Professional Makeup Liquid Crystal Body Liner.
Before you begin, practice painting liquid eyeliner flowers on a piece of paper and decide on the colours, shape, and composition of your eyeliner art.
- Paint the petals of your flowers in your chosen colour combination. We like the combination of purple, pale pink, and gold… but it’s up to you!
- Use white eyeliner to paint the centre of each flower and define any highlights.
- Add in leaves using green or teal eyeliner.
- Finish off with a line of green eyeliner at your lash line.
Complete the look with lashings of your , soft, nude lips, and a hint of rosy blush. Try Facestudio Master Blush Color & Highlight Kit – a convenient rosy toned palette that can be used to add colour to your cheeks and illuminate your skin.
This floral eye makeup look will take a couple of hours to achieve. If you’re pressed for time, just paint one or two flowers on one eyelid for a subtle effect.
