We love anything that sparkles, so it goes without saying that bright and shimmery nail art is one of our favourite things! Who cares if it’s not Christmas or New Year? You can get your glitter on for any special occasion - or just because you feel like it - all year round with these nail art ideas.

Confetti nails are a fun take on bejewelled nail art designs where, instead of structured patterns, glitter and rhinestones are placed more randomly, like a burst of confetti on your fingers! Here are three ways to get the look.

Pink and blue bedazzle

Are you a go-big-or-go-home kind of girl? Do you like your nails to be a little OTT (in a good way)? Paint your nails in deep sapphire blue and cherry pink. Once the varnish is dry, use nail glue and a pair of tweezers to apply rhinestones, sequins and other sparkly nail art. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly, then apply a clear top coat to seal the deal.

We recommend the colour combo of the high-gloss Essie Nail Lacquer in Big Spender and super-simple-to-apply Essie Nail Lacquer in Beach Bum Blue - or mix and match any jewel-toned varnishes you like! Complete the look with funky eyeliner patterns to match your nails. Try the gel-formulated L’Oreal Paris Infallible Crayon in I’ve Got the Blue.

Chunky glitter nails

A chunky glitter top coat is just the thing to transform plain nails into a confetti nail art design! Apply a couple of layers of a soft pink like the timeless classic, Essie Nail Lacquer in Ballet Slippers, then add a coat of clear polish that’s loaded with glitter and sequins. We love the matte glitter tones of Essie Nail Lacquer in You’re So Cupid.

Confetti ombre nails

If you want something more elegant, try a confetti ombre where just the nail tips are encrusted in glitter, fading to a solid colour. Apply the flawless-coverage Essie Nail Lacquer in Off Tropic as a base colour and once dry, paint a dot of glittery nail polish on the tip of each nail. Use a dry nail brush to pull the glitter down towards the base of your nails. Finish with clear top coat for added shine and to prevent chipping. Complement your nail art with a sparkly hair accessory for a cohesive, well-groomed look.

Nail art is great for manicures as well as pedicures - so have some fun with your toes and make them twinkle! Now that your glitter goals are done and dusted check out some of our other nail and makeup tutorials to keep up with all the latest trends.
