Imagine there was a part of your body you could whip into shape without slogging away at the gym for months on end… Oh, wait, that is actually possible – they’re called eyebrows! Those furry arches on your forehead are there for good reason- they create the perfect frame for your face and, without them, well, your face is just going to look a little ‘unfinished’, especially with makeup on it.
Sporting the perfect set of brows is a two-phase process. Eyebrow shaping is first-and-foremost about finding the best shape for your face. Second, you’ll need to determine your ideal eyebrow colour. Learn more about how to make your eyebrows thicker, more defined and 100% enviable with the right eyebrow shade.
1. Factor in the undertone of your skin
If you’re naturally pale, burn easily and don’t hold a tan well, you fall into the spectrum of cool undertones. If you’re a little more ‘olive’ toned and tan easily, you fall into the warm side of the spectrum. If you are neither of these i.e. your skin is more neutral toned, this means you can play with both cool and warm brow colour choices. If you are naturally dark skinned, warm brow tones are your go-to!
2. Consider your hair colour
This is a big one – want to know how to do eyebrows without getting too technical? Simply match your brow colour as closely to your current hair colour as possible. Don’t make the eyebrow faux pas of sporting blonde locks and black eyebrows because your natural hair colour is dark brown! This just won’t do.
Go for a brow colour that’s closet to the base tone of your hair, not the lightest part. The Urban Decay Brow Box offers the perfect duo of brow shades for both blondes and brunettes.
If you have light brown hair, opt for a brow shade that’s one to two shades darker than your hair. The double-ended YSL Dessin Des Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil is ideal for lighter shades of brunette and for defining the perfect brow.
Just FYI- auburn eyebrows aren’t quite a thing just yet! Go for a cool-tone brown if you are more auburn, or a warmer toned brown if your locks are little more fiery.
If you have dark brown/black hair, don’t go too dark with your brows! This can make them look overly drawn-in and obvious. Stick to a more neutral brow shade such as a medium brown. The Lancôme Monsieur Big Brow is ideal for shading in thick, luscious brunette brows.
