As an ode to all the naturally freckled ladies of the world, there couldn’t be a more on-trend makeup look that has us all swooning. Freckles are in, and no, they haven’t made some ‘magical comeback’ from the ‘90s – they have always been in. Freckles embody the rightful celebration of natural beauty among women all over the globe, from all walks of life. Step One:

For the perfect fake freckles makeup look, you’ll need to create a smooth, matte canvas upon which to work. Make sure your face is clean, then apply a mattifying primer to keep your makeup in place all day.

Step Two:

Once your face has been primed, and you’ve allowed it to set, you’ll need to colour-correct any areas of discolouration across the face where needed. These may be areas such as dark circles under the eyes, blemishes or pigmentation, and scarring. Keep in mind that peach colours help to disguise dark circles; greens help to cover up redness; and yellow helps to cover up pigmentation. Once colour correcting is complete, apply a matte foundation over the top of this.

Step Three:

To create the perfect base for your faux freckles, apply a loose face powder over the top of your foundation, we recommend the lusciously silky Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder in Translucent.

Step Four:

Now it’s time to freckle up! Using a slimline, precise eyeliner pencil, such as the NYX Professional Makeup Slim Eye Pencil in Light Brown or Medium Brown, create lightly speckled freckles across your cheeks, nose and up to your cheekbones. You want to create freckles in areas that would naturally freckle on their own, and then a few extra! Once your freckles have been dotted around, use the tip of a finger to gently press down over each freckle to soften the look, but be careful not to use a dragging motion.

Step Five:

Once your freckle-speckled makeup look is complete, add another light layer of translucent face powder over the top to ensure your faux freckles stay in place all day.
