How to wear glitter on your face without the disco ball look
How to wear glitter on your face without the disco ball look
The fashion world’s runways were recently awash with the most gorgeous glitter-infused makeup looks. From soft washes of sparkle on the lids and lips to clusters of star confetti on the cheekbones, everyone was channelling their inner glitter bug. We show you how to translate a full-on starstruck look into a delicately shimmering one for your next special occasion.

Hold on tight

Glitter and primer go hand in hand, and using one before you apply any loose glitter pigments is a necessary step to prevent glitter migration down your face. Use a small brush to apply NYX Professional Makeup Glitter Primer to your lids (or anywhere else you desire), allow to dry and then gently press glitter directly onto the primed area.

Top tip

No primer? No problem. Use a swipe of clear lip gloss as a sticky base for glitter to adhere to.

A light dusting of loose sparkles on the upper lids is all you need for a look that’s extraordinary but not overdone. We recommend NYX Professional Makeup Face & Body Glitter in Silver for a more wearable, playing-it-safe option or NYX Professional Makeup Face & Body Glitter in Copper for a trendy red-hot look.

Top tip

Start off with a light layer and build up the glitter as you go. You can always add more but it’s tricky to remove glitter if you’ve gone OTT.

On the line

Another way to wear glitter on your eyes? How about a swipe of bright, glistening liner across your upper lids? Try a formula that contains super-fine glitter in a clear, longwearing base, such as Urban Decay’s range of Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners. Our favourite hue is Spandex for the ultimate glam-rock look.

Of course, you can also don glitter on your lips and cheeks à la the catwalks, but we find that the eyes are the easiest way to make the trend your own. However, if you are daring enough to try glitter-encrusted lips, be sure to prep them well beforehand with something tacky to hold the glitter in place. As far as cheeks go, opt for a glistening highlighter with shimmer running through it.
