Inky manicures are having a moment: Would you go Gothic on your nails?

Black is beautiful, and if the latest nail trends are anything to go by – this is true for your nails too! That’s right – dark, mysterious, inky nails are so in right now. The question is, are you game to go Gothic? If so, we have some tips for you…

Choose the right shade

The blacker, the better… but that doesn’t mean that you have to go the whole hog if you’re keen to embrace this look. Believe it or not, there are many different shades of black to choose from – even dark grey or rich chocolate brown can work. Our favourite at the moment, though, is undoubtedly the high-gloss, jet-black Essie Nail Polish in Liquorice.

Avoid stains

One of the main reasons why some gals are terrified to try out this trend is because they’re worried about the heavy pigment staining their nails – so not a good look! The good news is that this faux pas is easy to avoid. Just make sure that you always apply a base coat (or two) before applying the inky polish on top. If you notice staining despite doing this, you can get rid of it with the help of a lemon wedge – simply rub it onto the nails and leave for a few minutes before washing off.

Keep them short

While long black nails have their place (erm, Halloween, perhaps?), this aesthetic looks a lot more sophisticated when you keep your nails short and shapely.

With these tips in mind, there’s no need to think before you ink… Gorgeous, long-lasting inky black nails will soon be yours to enjoy.
