Is blurred lipstick this season's top makeup trend
Is blurred lipstick this season's top makeup trend

Ever get bored of wearing lipstick in a conventional way? You know – the same way your mom and grandma do? Then this playful trend is for you! This OTT lip look has us wearing lipstick in variations of blurriness and imperfection. We’re sticking to red hues, as this statement colour best captures the feminine drama of this technique. Now let’s look at the different ways to rock the blurred lipstick look.

This look involves purposeful lip bleeding to create the illusion of having just been kissed, or to give you that “I’ve been sucking on a cherry lollipop for hours” look. To achieve this, use NYX Professional Lip Lingerie in Exotic – Warm Mahogany Red and apply slightly over your lip line. Next use a buffer brush to buff the colour further over your lips. Top it off with NYX Professional Makeup #THISISEVERYTHING Lip Oil to give shine, and finally press your lips together.

Also known as K Beauty’s “gradient lip”, this technique aims to make lips look smaller and eyes look bigger. To achieve this, begin by smearing Maybelline Masterfix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder in Translucent over your lips as a base. Next apply Maybelline Color Blur Cream and Matte Pencil and Smudger in Cherry Cherry Bang Bang only at the centre of the lips, and use your fingers to smudge it slightly outward. Finally, press your lips together to complete the look.

The style that started it all! For this look, we’re dispensing with the outline completely, and blending the lipstick into the skin around the mouth for extra “just been snogging” drama. For the effect to work, begin by applying a matte lipstick, like Urban Decay Mega Matte Vice Lipstick in Hex, to the centre of your lips and build outward. Stop applying when you reach your lip line. Follow this up by drawing an outline with Urban Decay 27/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Gash right underneath your lip line. Finally, use a cotton earbud to wipe across your lips until the colour looks faded.

It may feel a little unnatural to intentionally ignore your lip line at first, but once you get into it, a whole new world of mouth makeup opens up to you! This trend was created for daring party girls and is meant to be cheeky and experimental. You can choose to go overboard and get wild or make a subtle, casually messy statement on an evening out.
