Mastering the art of applying lip lacquer
Mastering the art of applying lip lacquer
Wearing lacquer can be tricky! It has a thicker consistency and is richer and shinier than a regular gloss – which means applying too much could leave you feeling like a sticky mess. To avoid this, here’s a step by step guide on wearing lip lacquer.

Step 1

Begin by applying the lacquer only on the centre of your upper lip. The secret to applying lacquer is holding the applicator straight so that only the tip touches your lips. Don’t hold the applicator at an angle or you’ll lose that pin-point precision you need to keep things neat.

Step 2

Keep applying only to the centre of your upper lip until you’re happy with the consistency. If you accidentally use too much, use a cotton pad to dab it off.

Step 3

Once you’re okay with the consistency and thickness (and have a better idea about its smear-quality), work your way outwards to other areas of your lips. Follow the natural shape of your lips as you move along.

Step 4

Once your entire lip is covered, be patient, and wait for the lacquer to dry. Don’t press your lips together or the colour will smudge and bleed into your surrounding lip lines. Our recommendation for a product perfect for first timers? Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Hot Lacquer Lip Gloss.

You’ll love the glorious shine a good lip lacquer brings to your makeup look. Now all that’s left is to find a colour that best suits you!
