Top five nail art designs to try right now
Top five nail art designs to try right now

In recent years, nail art has come to represent our unique style. Instead of slapping on the season’s top colours like every other woman in the world, we now have the option to embrace something unique and fun – adding something special to our everyday style and setting ourselves apart from the crowd. With that in mind, here are the top five nail art designs we recommend you try right now.

1. Easy Ombre

What you’ll need: • 2 x nail polish colours of your choice  • Topcoat • Sponge • Small brush • Nail polish remover Step 1

Apply the first coat of polish, beginning with the lighter of the two colours you’ve selected.

Step 2

Using your polishes, paint a stripe of each colour on your sponge.

Step 3

Begin applying the colour by dabbing it onto your nails. Slightly move the sponge up and down your nail, still using a dabbing motion. (Repeat this step as necessary.)

Step 4

Apply the topcoat for long-lasting wear and optimal shine. Remember, this manicure may appear uneven because of sponge application. As a result, you may need to apply two or three topcoats.

Step 5

Last, but certainly not least, you’ll have to do some cleaning up. Using your small brush and some nail polish remover, clean away any polish that may have ended up on your skin.

2. Perfect Plastic

What you’ll need:

• 2 x different nail polish colours of your choice
• Crumpled plastic wrap
• Topcoat

Step 1

Apply a base coat using the lighter of your two nail polishes, and allow to dry.

Step 2

Once your base coat is dry, apply a layer of the darker polish over it. While the varnish is still wet, grab the crumpled plastic wrap and dab it over your nail. This will leave areas of your lighter base coat exposed for a unique effect.

Step 3

Add a topcoat for optimal results.

3. Watermelons for Africa

What you’ll need:

• Pink nail polish
• Green nail polish
• Black nail polish
• Topcoat
• Nail art brush
• Nail polish remover

Step 1

Apply your pink polish as a base colour.

Step 2

Using your nail art brush, paint a thin line around the edge of your nails with the green polish.

Step 3

Now, using your white paint, add another thin line next to the green.

Step 4

Add in the watermelon seeds using black paint and your nail art brush.

Step 5

Apply your topcoat, and remove any paint that might have spilled over onto your skin.

4. Two-Tone It

• 2 x nail polish (different shades of the same colour)
• Nail strips

Step 1

Apply two coats of polish using the lighter of the two shades you’ve selected.

Step 2

Lay a nail strip across your nail in a diagonal manner and apply a coat of the darker nail colour.

Step 3

Add a topcoat for good measure.

5. Block it with Colour

• 3 x contrasting nail polish colours of your choice
• Sticky tape
• Basecoat
• Topcoat
• Nail polish remover

Step 1

Apply the base coat for a smooth surface.

Step 2

Paint your nails with the lightest of your three polish colours, and allow to dry.

Step 3

Use sticky tape to section off a square area of your nail, apply your second colour and allow to dry.

Step 4

Add the final block using sticky tape as per Step 3.

Step 5

Remove any polish that may have ended up on your skin, and add a topcoat.

Now you’re all set to dominate 2018 with inspired nail art designs sure to leave your friends green with envy. Remember to have fun, and experiment with different techniques and colours for an unforgettable look.
