Winter is great because you don’t have to worry about sweaty makeup sliding off your face… but sometimes things can get a little too dry, right? The wintry weather can play havoc with your skin. Icy winds combined with indoor heating is very drying and can make skin look dull and flaky.
So how do you get a glowing, radiant complexion throughout winter? We’ve got a few tricks to help you out:
Moisturiser is vital
Using a good moisturiser is important all year round, but in winter it needs to become part of your makeup routine. It provides a smooth surface for your foundation and stops makeup from flaking where you have dry patches. Even though it’s winter, use foundation with SPF - the sun still shines when it’s cold outside!
Avoid powdery foundation
If your skin is dry, then powder foundation will only make it look drier. Liquid or cream-based foundations provide additional moisture for your skin and help to lock the moisture in. We love the silky finish of Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation. This product is lightweight like a mousse, yet offers superb coverage to refine your complexion with a subtle glow.
Apply foundation in gentle dabbing motions all over your face using a damp makeup sponge. This will result in a soft, dewy effect.
Use liquid highlighter
Highlighter helps to sculpt your face, and also give you a hint of glow without using bronzer.
As with your foundation, you should avoid powder-based products in winter. NYX Professional Makeup Away We Glow Liquid Highlighter is a creamy liquid that gives your skin a shimmer where you need it most. It comes in two radiant shades, with a variety of booster products that you can use to create your perfect highlighter colour.
Apply highlighter to your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose. You don’t need to use too much - just a dab for a little glow on the high points of your face. Blend in using a makeup sponge.
Finish with other creamy products
A dewy complexion in winter is all about avoiding anything that can dry out your skin. As far as possible, use cream-based eyeshadow and blush. Use a moisturising lipstick or go naked with moisturising lip gloss.
